Caroline Vacara

BSc (Hons)  • MSc Clin Psych  •  CPsychol

Independent Practitioner affiliated with Gloucestershire Psychology Services

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist and Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) recognised practitioner with over 30 years of experience working with adults in the NHS and independent practice.

I offer sessions to adults struggling with stress, anxiety and depression and have a particular interest in trauma and its impact on our emotions, our physical health and our relationships.  I have studied a range of psychological approaches which inform my work – including Compassion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Analytic Therapy and Complex Trauma models.  In recent years, I have undertaken training in Internal Family Systems (IFS).  I have found IFS to be an empowering and respectful approach that helps us better understand ourselves, build closer relationships and navigate the challenges of life from a steadier place.  It is an approach that I have found invaluable in my own life and I have seen how helpful it can be in my clinical practice.

It can feel daunting choosing the right therapist. I usually recommend a preliminary chat on the phone to help you decide next steps. I am always happy to help direct to other therapists if wanted.  If you choose to go ahead, we can arrange an initial meeting.  At this meeting we can then explore together the areas of your life you want to address in more depth and start to establish a provisional plan (including frequency of sessions, whether you want to work short or long term and any specific goals). This initial meeting will also give you an opportunity to ask further questions, get more of a sense of how I work, and whether what I can offer feels like a good fit for you.

Therapy can bring up strong emotions so I will always endeavour to pace sessions in a way that doesn’t become overwhelming.  From my experience, when feelings are fully acknowledged, and worked through in a safe space, it becomes possible to move towards a more centred, calmer, and less reactive way of being with ourselves, others, and the world.

Availability and fees

I currently offer in-person sessions in Stroud on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (9-2pm), and online sessions on Thursdays (9-6pm). My fees are set at £95.00 for a 60-minute session.
