Dr Julia Frearson

Clinical Psychologist and
Integrative Yoga Teacher

BSc(Hons) • D.Clin.Psy • CPsychol

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). I am also an advanced level yoga teacher accredited by Yoga Alliance.  I have worked in psychological services in the NHS since 2001 and as a qualified psychologist in Gloucestershire since 2006. I have taught yoga across many contexts since 2011.

I am able to offer the following services:

Individual Therapy Sessions

My training and experience allows me to blend varied approaches in my practice to suit individual circumstance and context. This includes ideas from yoga philosophy and practice where it fits.

I am able to help individuals who experience discontent or suffering. I try to move away from particular diagnoses unless this is helpful to you. Symptoms may include low mood and motivation, repetitive thinking, self criticism and shame based difficulties, relationship problems, eating issues, physical discomfort/illness and inflammation amongst many other signs of distress. I have experience in working with people with mild learning disabilities and adults with autism too.

I use Compassion Focused Therapy and am just completing specialist training in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). Other approaches I draw on include Dialetical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and relationship based models.  I can integrate yogic ideas and principles, alongside body based interventions. I strongly commit to supporting people to flourish in body and mind using models of humanity and approaches that reduce self blame.

Building a helpful and caring therapeutic relationship is the very start. This progresses to collaboratively understanding what caused difficulties to form and what might maintain suffering in the present. Carefully agreed goals for change are measured to keep us on track.  Questionnaires may be completed to help with this. The number of sessions is negotiated and mapped by needs.

I believe that education is a key feature in helping people manage difficult emotions. I also like to empower people to take ownership for healing, which often involves active practice of new ways of attending, thinking, relating to the self and others,  care of the body and general health.

I currently offer one-to-one online and face-to-face psychological therapy and yoga interventions (face to face only). I can offer daytime sessions including before 9am.

Please contact me by email to book an initial telephone conversation. From there we will either book to start our assessment or I will try to guide you to a source of help that may be better suited.

Face-to-Face Appointments will be in Gloucester City. Online Appointments offered using Zoom.

Clinical Supervision

I am able to provide clinical supervision to other mental health professionals.

I can also offer group yoga sessions for businesses either as a one off or for an agreed but limited period of time. These can be adapted to meet the needs of your team. For information about movement classes for individuals, groups and businesses and/or specific sports related assessment and support please visit Julia at: www.mindbodyperform.co.uk
