Dr Pippa Wolfendale-Smith

Chartered and Clinical Psychologist

BA • MA • PGDip • MSc • CPsychol • D.Clin.Psy

I am a Clinical Psychologist with Chartered status.  I have worked in mental health services since 2006 and with the NHS since 2010.  My training and experience enable me to work with people with a variety of difficulties.  I take an integrative approach to therapy, applying elements from several different modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and psychodynamic theory amongst others.  I am guided by the client rather than the model of therapy – we go with what works.

I am passionate about my role as a psychologist and therapist and am dedicated to helping my clients work through their difficulties.  It has long been accepted that the therapeutic relationship is key to successful therapy and it is essential that clients feel safe to explore their distress. I am committed to creating an environment and approach that supports this.  I help people understand why their problems may have arisen, consider what may be maintaining them and acknowledge and build upon their strengths; it is only when we develop an understanding of ourselves that we can make changes.

Ultimately I chose this profession because I know that life can be painful but that it doesn’t have to be.  I want to help reduce people’s suffering so that they can be free to live the life they wish to.
